About Us

Established in March 2006, AVIF is an independent non-profit UK registered charity. We are registered with the UK government's Her Majestys Revenue and Customs ref. XR99385 but not with the main Charity Commission due to our small size* and low income. We receive no funding from the UK or Kenyan governments and no significant sustained funding from other sources.

*Changes announced in the Charities Act 2006 to raise the registration threshold for small UK charities came into force on 23 April 2007. Any charitable organisation with an annual income of over £5,000 a year must register with the Charity Commission. AVIF falls below that threshold .

All our work is archived on the blog below and previously on Blogger here.

To meet any of our volunteers and discuss their experiences we have a large FaceBook Group, and Fan Page (click logo).

AVIF works in partnership with many other communities and organizations, including:

Enkito Manyatta

Maasai Askari manyatta in Amboseli. Male members of the village also work on a paid contract as night watchmen for the highly recommended Stilts Backpackers in Diani.
